MLow X Rebecca Rose
Collage artist Rebecca Rose explains how to bring traditional galleries into web3, and why the career still runs on open calls, residencies and showing up.
Rebecca Rose is a Florida based new media artist who makes what she calls 3D collage: cut imagery stacked with real distance between foreground, midground and background, then animated as a camera travels through the layers. She spent 18 years running creative projects at The Walt Disney Company, managing teams of body painting artists, opening new locations, working with Lightstorm Entertainment on the Colors of Mo'ara and with Lucasfilm on the Star Wars Weekends campaigns. For four of those years she was flown to Rabat to make work for the Moroccan royal family's birthday celebrations. Before crypto she was known for Sculpturings, wearable sculptural collages cast in precious metal by lost wax. Her bronzes were shown at The Andy Warhol Museum and she was an artist in the interactive digital component of the 2017 Whitney Biennial. She started minting in 2021 and now works across nine platforms and several chains, including SuperRare, Foundation, Nifty Gateway, exchange.art and Bitcoin ordinals through Gamma, and she has curated for MakersPlace, KnownOrigin and SuperRare through the Haus of Collage. Institutions came around: Whip Out the Paints and Get To It was built inside Norman Rockwell's studio with the museum and the Rockwell family, Carpe GM entered the Museum of Art and Light permanent collection in 2025, and Seam and Gusset and Band went to Christie's Next Wave sale.
Collage in every form she can reach: analog, digital, sculptural, animated, holographic and walk through installation. Her current work is the DeepCuts series, single edition 3D collage animations each built from a song, rendered at 1080 by 1080 and around a minute long. She also builds her collages as holograms using pepper's ghost, inverted pyramids and micro projection onto vapor, and casts wearable sculptural collages as rings in precious metal. Named bodies of work include DeepCuts, Our Humanity, Transatlantic, Disorder in the Courts, Aeon Manifesto and Sculpturings.
