MLow X Photon Tide with Andres Del Vecchio
A co-hosted interview with masked psychedelic artist Photon Tide on music as the root of his images, dream journals, losing control on purpose, and AI as a tool.
Photon Tide, who signs his work Pho, is a Mexican American digital artist whose practice sits between mixed media and the subconscious. He says a photon is a particle of light and that is what he wanted to bring into the world, using images to explore consciousness, dreams and what it means to be human. He started selling single edition work on Foundation in 2021 with pieces like Alucinacion, chaos theory and i left my body last night, then ran a long dream journal series on SuperRare through 2022: doors of perception, sleep paralysis, detachment from reality, the outcast. The Spiral became his signature motif and set off the phospiral challenge, which drew more than two hundred entries from other artists. Sotheby's took him twice, Internal Warfare in the Contemporary Discoveries sale of March 2023 and One Last Dance as Lot 26 of the Digital Art Day Sale in August 2024, on a list with XCOPY, Pak and Refik Anadol. He showed Amaterasu at Art Basel Miami in 2023, Psychedelic Hues (alone, again) at NFT NYC, and opened his first Italian solo show, Rhythms of the Subconscious, at NINFA Labs in Milan in June 2024. Art of This Millennium represents him. This episode was co hosted with the artist Andres Del Vecchio.
Mixed media psychedelia made from alcohol ink, watercolor, photography, digital painting and animation, usually a lone silhouette standing inside a warping field. Recurring bodies of work include Recurring Dreams, into the unknown, Symbols and Omens, Cells with Transient Labs, Dreamscapes, you vs you and Spirals. He mints on artist owned Manifold contracts and sells through SuperRare, Foundation, Art of This Millennium and Transient Labs. Titles read like entries from a dream journal, and the spiral runs through the whole catalog.
