MLow X Other World
A bioengineering PhD candidate making dark art with bright colors explains collage built from classical paintings, hidden Armenian Easter eggs, and quality over quantity.
Other World is a digital artist based in Los Angeles who keeps almost everything else about his identity private. He came up in the NFT community during the pandemic and works to a motto he states plainly: dark art with bright colours. He finished a PhD in biomedical engineering and then went to art full time, and he has said that science shaped his view of life and morality in ways that bleed into the work without him planning it. The pictures usually start from older painting. He rebuilds classical compositions through collage and illustration until the story has changed completely, then fills them with his recurring cast: hooded figures he calls fiends, in bright cloaks, along with grim reapers and small devils. They are almost always mid action, and the action is almost always violent or about to be. Titles like Perfect Chaos, The Garden, Till Death Do Us Part, Beauty of War, and Game of Souls give the tone. He sells one of ones on SuperRare, where his profile is split between a small run of one of ones and a much larger Experiments series, and he has also released through OpenSea, Proof, and a print collaboration with Avant Arte called Dogs of War.
He works in collage and digital illustration, taking the structure of older paintings and repopulating them with his own figures until the source is only a scaffold. The recurring characters are the hooded fiends, reapers, and devils, painted in high key colour against dark subject matter. He splits his output between a small number of one of ones and a much larger Experiments series, and has moved into physical prints through Avant Arte.
