OMZ

Omz is a crypto art collector who started in 2020. His first NFT was The Protector by Trevor Jones and Jose Delbo. He was one of eighteen collectors interviewed by the Museum of Crypto Art in 2023 for its series of essays on crypto art collectorship, where he argued that the artists who arrived early carried something the later wave did not. As he put it in that essay, there is a certain purity to the art an artist who came early had that new artists do not have, and he was careful to add that it is not necessarily their fault, because the incentive and the motivation for showing up had changed. SuperRare ran a collector AMA with him in May 2021, by which point he had already collected more than sixty works there. His main collecting wallet now holds several hundred pieces, roughly a hundred and seventy of them SuperRare one of ones, alongside work from KnownOrigin, Foundation, MakersPlace, Async Art, and artist deployed contracts. He buys deep rather than wide: Max Osiris, Robness, Norman Harman, Gary Cartlidge, A. L. Crego, gozo, and crashblossom all appear many times over. He also deployed a small contract of his own, ByOmz, whose first token is called Broken Simulation.

He collects one of one crypto art, mostly from artists working in glitch, trash art, and net native imagery, and he returns to the same names again and again rather than spreading a single buy across many artists. His holdings run from early KnownOrigin and SuperRare work through Async Art programmable pieces to artist deployed contracts. He also holds work by other guests of this show, including Patrick Amadon and Nuclear Samurai.
