Max Osiris

Artist

Max Osiris is a painter and provocateur who started tokenising work on SuperRare in August 2018, in the first wave of crypto artists, and who had to invent the job title full time cryptoartist because nobody else was using it. He works in large format acrylic on canvas, dense with fractal light, alchemical symbols and psychedelic architecture, and mints the paintings as one of ones. In 2019 he co-organised one of the first physical crypto art group shows, at Innerspace Gallery in Los Angeles, which pulled a community that had only existed online into a room together. In 2020 SuperRare banned him for work that did not fit the platform's standards. The bannings, two of them, produced a wave of solidarity from other artists and are widely credited as a catalyst for Trash Art, a deliberate collective answer to curation gatekeeping. When SuperRare became a DAO he was voted back unanimously. Since then his work has travelled through Paris, Cologne, Prague, Sydney, Dubai, Casablanca, Riyadh, Barcelona, Lima and Miami. He was included in Sotheby's Glitch: Beyond Binary in New York in 2023 and showed at Art Basel Miami in 2022 and again in 2025, where he moved into live performance. He describes the goal as making art straight from the heart, unbeholden to anyone or any existing power structure.

The core of the practice is acrylic on canvas at scale, up to eighty one inches, painted from visionary and altered states and then minted so the digital token and the physical object travel separately. Alongside the paintings he makes digital collage and glitch work whose look helped set the visual register of early crypto art, and he was among the first to mix meme culture with Dadaism. He calls himself a transdimensional artist, and critics have variously called him a digital shaman, a neo surrealist and a psychedelic visionary.
