MLow X Bryan Brinkman
Emmy winning animator Bryan Brinkman on building a recognizable visual language, collecting daily, and using Sotheby's as a validator for outsiders rather than a marketplace.
Bryan Brinkman, born in 1985, is a New York based animator and digital artist. He studied animation at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, then went into advertising and television as a graphic artist and motion designer, working on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live, The Life and Times of Tim and Girl Code, plus jobs for MTV, HBO and Comedy Central. He won Emmys for visual effects work on Saturday Night Live. That broadcast training is still visible in how he builds motion, timing and composition. He started minting NFTs in 2020, first on SuperRare, Rarible, PixelChain and Nifty Gateway, and quickly became one of the recognisable faces of the first crypto art wave. His catalogue now runs past 280 works. He has shown and sold through Christie's and Sotheby's, exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London, Unit London and SuperRare Gallery in New York, and released a curated project on Art Blocks. CoinDesk named him to its Most Influential list in 2022 and he signed with Creative Artists Agency the same year. He keeps his palette deliberately consistent so the work reads as his on sight.
He makes animation first: looping motion pieces, dynamic and interactive works that respond to time or on chain data, and generative series written in JavaScript. The subject is usually creative life itself, attention, memory, identity and the economics of making art online, handled in a pop register with bright saturated colour and clean shapes. Recent work under his BrinkWorks banner is interactive and often reactive, from a sundial clock to a piece that reads the day's Ethereum price.
