Andre Oshea is a 3D artist and animator based in Atlanta whose renders deal with futurism, spirituality and Black possibility. He grew up in Minneapolis, then lived in Delaware and Philadelphia, where he spent about six years as a DJ and music producer after studying studio art in college. He moved to Atlanta and worked his way through graphic design and After Effects motion design before finding Cinema 4D, which finally let him build the images he had been carrying around in his head. He had been posting mood boards and creative prompts on Twitter for years when a February 2021 post connected him with the Black artists then organizing in web3, and he made his first NFT sale a month later. His profile jumped almost immediately: his piece Tribute: Chadwick in Gold was placed in the Everyone Wins gift bag at the 2021 Academy Awards, and when the plan around it fell apart he answered by making a new tribute without Boseman's likeness, A Young Boy's Dream, and auctioning it on MakersPlace with half the proceeds going to the Colon Cancer Foundation. Since then he has worked with Vogue, Netflix, Snapchat, Adult Swim, Tidal and John Legend, been auctioned by Christie's, joined TIME's TIMEPieces, made a four piece drop for the GRAMMYs with OneOf, and appeared in the documentaries Not a JPEG and Minted.
Oshea models and animates in Cinema 4D, building saturated dreamlike scenes: arches and portals, floating geometry, glowing altars and single Black figures set in wide landscapes or deep space. His color is soft and slightly synthetic, more sunset and neon than photoreal. Recurring subjects include transcendence, memory and inheritance, and much of the work reads as a doorway into somewhere the viewer has not been yet.
