MLow X Lovid

A 36 second surviving clip of LoVid walking MLow through a body of analog video portraits, one of which sits in the Whitney's collection.

Fragment

This is not a full episode. The posted video runs 36 seconds, and only the opening narration carries audio; the rest of the runtime is silence. What survives is LoVid, the artist duo of Tali Hinkis and Kyle Lapidus, describing a series of works during what sounds like a gallery or studio walkthrough.

In the surviving audio LoVid explains that the pieces are unique portraits, each one a different person, with all of the colors and patterns generated using analog video. They point out that one of the works is in the collection of the Whitney Museum, and note that the pieces have been selling for a few years. That museum context is what makes the loss of the rest of the recording sting: a full conversation with an artist whose analog video work has entered the Whitney would have been a valuable document.

The conversation, topic by topic

Analog video portraits

LoVid describes a series of unique works: each is a portrait of a different person, and every color and pattern in them is made with analog video rather than digital tools.

The Whitney piece

LoVid singles out one work as being in the collection of the Whitney Museum, identifying it as the robot piece, and says the unique works in the series have been sold over a period of a few years.

In their words

“They're portraits and all the colors, all the patterns are made with analog video.”

Lovid

“And this one is the one that's in the collection of the Whitney.”
